![]() This is easily determined by smoking the neck & watching the black disappear. Are you careful to NOT shove the shoulder back when resizing the cases? In many dies, you can not just screw the die down until it contacts the shell holder adjust the die until it just barely kisses the shoulder. Varget is slightly slower burning than IMR 4064, almost the same as 4320, which I've had great luck with.Ĭase head cracks are most likely the result of case stretching due to excessive headspace. Did you try a reduced load of 4064 with your 125's? It is possible that in your '91, 44 grains is too much. ![]() However, every rifle is different and you should work up to max loads carefully. Well, 44 grains of 4064 is near max for a 150 grain bullet, but should be OK with a 125 grainer. I will report back after I try them out in a couple of days. Varget seems to be a lower pressure powder. I'm going to try some 125 grain loads with Varget powder and see what happens. However, the 174 grain bullet with 40 grains of 4064 shot great w/ no pressure or head space signs, and it shot one inch groups. Either a sign of too much pressure or a head space problem. Anyway, my reason for asking is that I shot some 7.65x53 loads with the 125 grain bullet in my '91 with 44 grains of 4064 and had a few case head cracks. I also have a 1909 Argentine action that has been rebarreled to 6.5x55 Swedish w/ a sporter stock and a heavy barrel that is an absolute tack driver.
